Supporting and Connecting Community-Based Monitoring for Climate-Resilient Salmon Ecosystems
Climate related changes to flow and temperature are threatening salmon populations throughout the Pacific Northwest. Communities across the province of British Columbia are collecting temperature, including over 500 sites from First Nations or Nongovernmental organizations and to a lesser extent flow data to inform local scale conservation and management actions. The Pacific Salmon Foundation has been working with 26 organizations across BC to support a variety of community-based efforts.
This report focuses on harmonizing community-led monitoring of salmon ecosystems. Specifically, this report provides a generalized scalable template to support harmonization of flow and temperature monitoring across the province thus strengthening community-led initiatives as well as informing regional and provincial scale questions. Generic monitoring design guidance is provided as well as a template for engagement with communities to support the harmonization of efforts.
