The Lower Fraser Salmon Habitat Restoration Strategy is a collaborative project between the Pacific Salmon Foundation’s Salmon Watersheds Program and the Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance. Developed by, and for, Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance member Nations and their traditional lands and waters, this community-based restoration strategy aimed to guide restoration projects and improve collaboration and coordination amongst Nations and other stewardship groups in the Lower Fraser River region. This coordinated, community-based approach to habitat restoration – one that can assist in strategically allocating the limited human and financial resources available – can maximize the positive outcomes for salmon and the people that depend on them.

Outcomes

To support this project, the Salmon Watersheds Program developed the Lower Fraser Salmon Habitat Restoration Planning Tool and the Salmon Habitat Restoration in the Lower Fraser River Story Map.

The Lower Fraser Salmon Habitat Restoration Planning Tool identifies known Pacific salmon spawning habitats and includes relevant geospatial layers that describe habitat pressures and other factors that may influence restoration planning in the region. In addition, this tool shows potential restoration sites that were identified by Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance member Nations, as well as past restoration projects for context.
